At the City of Boise, the official master address data is maintained in GIS. Addresses are critical to manage permits, licensing, billing, emergency response, infrastructure, citizen communication and city operations.  For decades, the City had a known information gap of sub-unit addresses locations for multi-unit complexes including: apartments, condominiums, triplexes, duplexes and other sites where we only had one addresses representing the entire site. As GIS address data continued to be integrated into assorted City systems, workarounds and manual workflows were being made to compensate for the missing data. The effort needed to fill in the missing data was deemed too big a task since there was only one addressing technician (who was already overworked) and, albeit inefficient, alternative workarounds. GIS staff across several departments said ‘ENOUGH’ and banded together to tackle this issue. By combining information and efforts from multiple GIS staff in multiple departments along with leveraging ArcGIS Online the team identified where sub unit data was missing and filled in nearly 10,000 missing data points over the course of 3 months.
