The Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR) is renewing efforts to improve the integration of GIS into business processes. This presentation reviews IDWR’s planning efforts, implementation thus far, and the benefits envisioned in its pursuit of better GIS integration. For decades many IDWR business processes have gathered, stored, maintained, and refined spatial information. However the custom data management applications for these processes have not historically used GIS to populate and validate location information. Instead, all geography is managed in a standalone GIS application that interfaces with all other applications. IDWR’s ITS Bureau has endeavored to address the technical and non-technical issues facing IDWR’s strategic objective of increasing productivity and efficiency through better GIS integration. Our task list includes creating of RESTful web services to facilitate data management and refining communication processes between GIS and IT staff.

I earned a MS in Geology and Certificate in GeoTechnologies from Idaho State University. And then one day I found ten years had got behind me. No one told me when to run. I missed the starting gun.
