Successful Integration of GIS, Surveying and Evolving Technologies

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

LiDAR and Image acquisition represent the latest evolving technologies that continue to affect our industry in mostly positive ways. The highly integrated mobile and airborne LiDAR sensors and the Structure from Motion (SfM) image processing algorithms all require precise survey control to meet the accuracies our clients demand. Successful integration of GIS and surveying platforms are a critical link required to maintain the intended accuracy and integrity of our data.
Subtle differences in the selected datum, adjustment, projection, ground scale, and units can result in large displacements and invalid analyses. Recent advancements in CAD, GIS, mapping and surveying software platforms improve automation while also introducing unintended errors with proprietary formats, new algorithms and on the fly projections.
The disruptive march of technology generates vast amounts of new spatial data from exponentially growing sensors, real-time feeds, and emerging AI applications. Our industry must capitalize during the ascent phase of new technologies to harness their full potential as we continue to adapt and remain relevant. So, what “Common Ground” can Land Surveying and GIS professionals bring to the table that may be lost in the growing hurricane of Big Data? With great technology comes great responsibility to meet great expectations!
  1. Earth is Dynamic
  2. Control is Paramount
  3. Software is Temperamental
  4. Technology is Disruptive
  5. Mapping is Perpetual
  6. Analysis is Conclusive?

Cost: $50

This half day workshop is a lecture style session. Laptops are not required, but are encouraged. Sample data sets will be available to download and go over during breaks and at the end of the session.
